Cleaning
Rugs should be vacuumed with care on a regular basis. The more traffic your rug receives the more often it should be cleaned. The build up of dirt can drastically reduce the lifespan of your rug.
When vacuuming, take care not to use too much suction and lways vacuum with the direction of the weave, on both sides of the rug.
Washing
Liquid spills must be taking care of as soon as possible. Place a towel or cloth on top of the spill and apply pressure to soak up the liquid and draw it out of the wool. Never rub a wet liquid stain. Repeat this step until clean. Using a designated wool detergent can help remove the stain as well. If the stain can’t be removed using this method, we recommend you to seek professional advice.
You can hand wash your pillow covers in cool water with mild detergent. During hand washing simply massage the cover and do not wring out water afterwards, squeezing is preferred to avoid deformation. Lay flat to dry.
Never machine wash or hand wash an entire rug with water. This could lead to deformation and/or running of dyes.
Rugs and blankets should be professionally cleaned at least once every one to three years. We recommend you to use the services of a professional who is experienced in the cleaning of flat handwoven rugs.
Storage
Never store the wool and cotton items in plastic bags as this can cause discoloration over a period of time. Instead, keep in a clean and dry environment that is easily accessible for regular inspection and cleaning.
Underlay
We recommend using an underlay for the rugs to prevent premature wear and possible slips, which could lead to injury. An underlay offers extra cushioning which helps protect the wool fibres from being crushed or damaged underfoot or by furniture.
The underlay should be cut 2cms to 5cms smaller than the dimensions of your rug.
Care
In the occurrence of loose threads, which is considered normal with handwoven items, we recommend carefully pushing the thread back into the weave of the rug using a blunt, pointed instrument. If the thread is long and does not continue back into the weave, carefully trim with scissors. Take care not to cut any structural threads that could cause it to unravel. If in doubt, tie a small, secure knot as close to the rug as possible and cut off the excess thread.
FURNITURE
Avoid stains and heat damage
To avoid rings and heat damage, always use coasters when setting glasses or mugs on wood tables, and never place hot items directly on them.
Avoid environmental damage
Sunlight, heat and other environmental factors can slowly fade away your fine wood. Avoid placing your item in direct sunlight or near a fireplace.
Dust often
Airborne particles can build a filmy layer on wood that scratches the surface. Frequent dusting keeps this buildup from happening.
Always use soft cloth like cotton or microfiber to avoid damage.
Keep your wood clean
Sometimes dusting isn’t enough and you’ll find it necessary to clean your wood furniture. Never use all-purpose cleaners, which can cause damage to the finish. If you have a spot that is heavily soiled or sticky, dip a cloth in water that contains a mild dish detergent. Wring it out as much as possible and gently wipe the area. Be sure to follow up with a rinse from a damp cloth containing just water, then immediately wipe with a soft dry cloth.
Re-oil dry wood
If furniture becomes overly dry, you may need to re-oil it. Begin by cleaning with a wet cloth and dry it. Liberally apply oil and let it soak into the wood for about 15 minutes. It you are going to apply a protective coating, let your furniture set for at least 24 hours before proceeding.
